I get rolling on something and some shiny comes along and makes me shift gears, Guess even writing about things can't keep me from bouncing like a meth head from one place to another. Rolling fine in Vanguard, and my long time gaming buddy calls me up wanting to start gaming again. We look around for a game we can both get into that we haven't played together, and settle on Guild Wars 2. I've never played it (came out during my move to Washington) and while he has a max level toon, he's not really tried out anything other then leveling it up. So I buy the game so we can stop our other activities once a week and game together, just like the old days. Well, when we were playing, I was totally nubbing everything up, and all the starter shit is old hat to him, but we make good progress. The next day, my altitus starts itching. So now there's nothing to do but try out all the classes and see which is for me. Unfortunately, my gametime is limited due to family time, so me trying out multiple toons means that the only game I'm playing is GW2.

Adding insult to injury, I finally convinced the wife to go back to gaming when the kids go to bed, but man did she throw down the gauntlet. She wants a toony, WOW like game that is F2P. She wants NOTHING to do with Vanguard (a result of me overplaying it at launch) and has no interest in min/max, difficulty, anything. She has only ever played WOW, and really enjoyed it until she had to stop playing for college finals, and never let herself play it again. Fear of gaming too much led her to not game at all. She's gotten on most of my accounts when I'm at work and tooled around a bit, but really missed gaming with me and my online friends. Ironically, one of her favorite gaming memories is when she was being camped in Hellfire Peninsula. I was running heroics with a buddy (one of those people that make MMO's great. Some random dude in a random guild that ended up being a friend for life, but only online. My big regret when I moved across the country is that I didn't have time to stop by his town and hang out.) Anyways, when Rizette got killed for the third or fourth time in a row by some max level toon, she asked for help. Instantly 151(the buddy) and I dropped what we were doing and headed out. For the next couple of hours we killed the ganker while my wife quested and harvested happily. She just loved the fact that we dropped everything to come over and beat up her bully, she still giggles when she talks about it.

Wow, that wasnt' supposed to become such a tangent. Moving on.

Well, I looked around, and seems like Runes of Magic will fit the bill for a game for wife time. I have to build her a desk for her laptop, she refuses to game on her lap, so that won't start up till next week/weekend, but the family gaming times should be starting up again soon!Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-46845725135372942462013-01-18T19:59:00.000-08:002013-01-18T19:59:02.610-08:00It has begunSo I've started up a couple of combo's in Vanguard, and am slowly figuring this Vanguard Multiboxing thing out. I did a 4 sorcerers team up to level ten, the problem with it was if I didn't kill a mob in one or two hits, the toon I was taking damage in was a cloth wearing glass cannon. I was starting up a team of 6 necro's when General chat informed me that the most recent patch unlocked all races and all classes for F2P accounts. Bam! Time to do this up kick ass style. Started a new group this morning that consists of Warrior, Bard, Sorcerer, Druid, Blood Mage and Shaman. I'm considering whether I want/need 2 1/2 healers on my team, but I like how this looks at the moment. This will be my first attempt at boxing melee toons, but a Bard is such a force multiplier that this should be a no brainer. If they haven't patched it, I know Warrior was the crappiest tank, but I already have a Paladin at level 48 and a Dread Knight at level 20 with level 50 armorsmithing. I will probably exchange the Warrior for the DK when the group gets level 20. Even not getting a toon past level 10 yet, I am having an absolute blast again, I just wish the day had more hours in it, as I only play very early in the morning, and late at night when the kids are in bed. Hopefully sometime soon the wife will join me in gaming again, but in order for that to happen I'm probably going to have to build her a computer desk, since her old one didn't make the trip across the country. Always another project....Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-77000326307370441102013-01-16T04:58:00.002-08:002013-01-16T04:58:54.071-08:00Welcome home presents Well, like I said in the last post, I looked around in WoW a bit, then jumped into Vanguard with both feet. My buddy got my account working(something wrong with the sony files, nothing to do with VG at all) and now I'm back. I downloaded HotkeyNet and started remembering all my old account info. Just got through doing a 4 box Sorc through the Isle of Dawn, and am really digging how well Sorc was set up for boxing. I'm going to try a group of Necro's for my Necro crafter, and I really need to test out my ability to play with melee guys, but for right now, I'm in a pretty good place. I'll have some pics and introduce you to the crew eventually, but stay tuned, cause more Vanguard: Saga of Heroes posts are coming. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-9549946986861263872013-01-15T04:28:00.000-08:002013-01-15T04:28:32.212-08:00Plans for the Future

This was written while I was gone, on pad and pen. Some of this has been decided, but still putting it up for posterity

Life is full of decisions. What should I eat, How much should I tip, What should I play? Well, today I'm offering answers. Whatever tastes best. Life is too short to be constantly fearing cancer or obesity. Eat a fucking steak with potatoes and enjoy life. 20%. I know, 15% is the standard in America, but having worked for tips before, I know that most people don't. A good server can make a HUGE difference in your meal, so why not let them know how well they did? Besides, 20% is easier math. Just multiply the meal by 2, and there's your tip. Meal cost 25 bucks? Tip 5. Life is better when things are made simple.
What to play is a more difficult question. It depends on what you want to do, and how much cash you can spend. There is WoW, the old stand by. Works fairly well. $15 a month. Has all the major spheres required to be a major MMO. Everyone has played this game to death, and while playing you can't help but think about how much better the game used to be. You cannot help it, you've played WoW for so long that now you constantly think about YOUR favorite in the game. BUT, WoW is pretty awesome in other ways. Multiple leveling paths. For an altoholic, being able to level in a variety of ways is a big plus. If you like questing, WoW has a bunch of different ways you can quest, and, at least until you hit level 60, you can go in different areas with different toons. Granted, at 60 things do slow down because it forces you into the path of same old same old. If you want to do dungeons to level, again it's not a problem because WoW has dungeons that go from 10ish all the way to max level. Once you get to that first instance, you can just grind till you ding 90, and it's all good. If you're by yourself, again no problem, LFG will automatically group you with people about the same level wanting to run the same instance. LFG has taken a lot of shit for how it's killed WoW, or turned everyone into asshats, but it is an amazing tool for doing/seeing content if you're playing the game solo. LFG deserves a post of it's own, so I won't get into it now. Anyways, back on topic. If you like PVP, you can level up by running battlegrounds over and over. It has harvesting, crafting, achievements, rep grinds, collections, solo content, group content, vanity gear. WoW is pretty amazing. If I were to play WoW right now, I would probably spend most of my time running old content for mounts/pets. I'm currently retired from raiding because I'm gone too much. Being constantly under geared because my job makes me leave the Internet, I can't be counted on to be a consistent raider, and I'm not much interested in having to grind 5-mans non stop twice a year so I can catch up. PVP is possible, but soloing battlegrounds is less then awesome, and arena is only cool with people I know. Multiboxing solves the PVP/Grouping content problem, but even ignoring the purchase price, WoW is $15 a month. Paying for 5 accounts is $75, which is a bit much for a late night/early morning activity. I am planning on starting up the wife's account to try to get her gaming again, and I have some friends who's accounts I can occasionally borrow, but it will require coordinating times and all, so an annoying idea if used.
Vanguard. Good PVE. No PVP. Great crafting. Great harvesting. Nice community. Free to Play. I know, I'm a fanboy, but you knew a Vanguard post was coming. Vanguard's questing is very good, but difficult to solo with most classes. Vanguard has some very unique classes to play, but alot of them are now behind a pay wall. Multiboxing is now possible due to F2P. Crafting and harvesting and diplomacy are absolutely epic. Dungeons are pretty awesome, and are non instanced, but no LFG means getting a group requires some good old fashion shouting. Zero PVP is a minus, but I'd rather have a game with no PVP then one that balances too much to compensate. If I play Vanguard, assuming my friend fixes my account while I'm away, I plan on mostly multiboxing to level, and grinding out some crafting. That has a lot of win factor for me, but I'm kind of curious how much processor power it will take to run more then two accounts at once. I'm also wondering how many of the F2P limitations can be paid away permanently. I'm a fan of giving game companies money, but prefer to buy things I want instead of subscribing. But that's another post.
Final Fantasy XI. A huge part of me wants to play this again. With the addition of the Dancer class, this game's solo-ability when through the roof. But, again, this was a game made for a duo. Because of the game's simplicity, you can play two accounts on two PC's with little to no difficulty. FFXI has arguably the best community in any game I've ever played. The economy is solid, and you can make money just playing the market if you know what you are doing. Understand that to play FFXI is to grind, cause that's all the game is, but memories make this grind more pleasant then most. FFXI has two problems. First, it IS a sub game. Granted, with no bank toons, it's only like $11 a month, so potentially doable when I get out from under the WoW 1 year sub. The bigger(and possibly insurmountable) problem is the level cap quests. Starting at lvl 50, and every 5 levels after, you have to do a quest in order to level up anymore. No biggie by itself, but these quests aren't doable at level solo, they are designed to require a raid to accomplish. Since there is not a bunch of people doing this all the time, it means you have to bug the max level people to run you through it. So, Basically, if you aren't cool with joining a linkshell(guild) and being an annoying, whiny, needy new guy, you are constantly trying to pay people to run you through things. Not my fav thing to do. Also, don't forget that the high level toons have WAY more money then you, so your "bribe" is pretty pathetic. You're basically the pixelated version of the guy offering you a quarter for a smoke, while praying I'll give you one for free. While the people in FFXI are super helpful, and I have never had someone complain, I HATE having to beg for run through, so thus the big problem. Squenix, if you're reading, do away with all of them but the last couple.
Rift/SWTOR/Aion/AoC/Every other not broken F2P game out there. All have positives and negatives. Rift's bard class is a multiboxers dream. Aion's crafting quests are the best thing to happen to crafting leveling since VG. SWTOR's companions increases the power of a multiboxer. Age of Conan's version of a necro would be amazing with multiboxing. Any/All of these things are possible, and I might try some/all of them at some point, but that time is not now.

For now, my plan is to get reacquainted with WoW and VG, and experiment/improve my multibox abilities. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-19092738023805516002013-01-08T22:28:00.001-08:002013-01-08T22:28:50.909-08:00Guess Who's BackAfter a long, involuntary hiatus, I have returned!! While I've been gone I moved across the country, and went to a world without Internet through all the holidays (Halloween-New Years)(I mentioned that my job makes me go away, right?). Well, regardless, we are getting back into the swing of things here, but we're ready to start rocking out. Not entirely sure what all is gonna happen, but we definatly will be getting our game on. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-33537333208626309202012-07-23T16:40:00.001-07:002012-07-23T16:40:55.592-07:00The calm before the stormWell, tomorrow the movers come to start packing the house. So no computer till whenever we get to Washington. So not looking forward to this. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-7883160021647220482012-07-13T09:26:00.001-07:002012-07-13T09:27:00.211-07:00Where are they now: more posts Yup. Not dead. I'm moving from the Chicago area to the Seattle area in less then a month, so done game hopping for a bit. Canceled everything but Wow(still in my year agreement), and noticed the Recruit a Friend price. 30 bucks. Hmm.

I got the year pass because one of my friends was in Afghanistan, but has enough Internet to do minor things in wow, farming and the like. Well, why make both of us stop playing to use Skype when we can just talk in wow. 15 a month is nothing to talk to my people, so not even a question of whether I'd stay subbed. I mean, this is the guy that I've gamed with since 2003, any game one of us played, the other had to play also. Over the last couple of years, we haven't been on the same server(in wow) due to one or both of us not having Internet, but now that we can, I decided to roll a toon on his server. RaF to the rescue.

I did some research, figured out how to dualbox, and have been having a blast leveling up yet more toons. Current favorite is double spriest, but gonna try out double warlock next. Nice to have fun in wow again. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-78156226270224413912012-07-04T08:02:00.001-07:002012-07-04T08:02:21.972-07:00Enough Already So not much to talk about in my day to day gaming atm, I've been in one of my "game nonstop for a couple hours followed by no gaming for a day" moods recently, plus the end of a good book series/children being cute, so not much to talk about. I have been concentrating mostly on CoH since VG told me to eat it, and some sort of post is upcoming for that. What I want to talk about today is the things that I'm done seeing in my games. Just a growing list of the things that I would love to see go away and never return.

VENDOR TRASH- It's really time for this to go. How much time does one really spend enjoying how awesome this crap that was designed just to give you something to sell for minimal cash? I'm sick and tired of playing the inventory management game. Just have things I kill drop cash, or if immersion is a factor, increase quest rewards of quests that require me to kill non humanoids. How many games don't have something awesome that you want in the game(housing, etc) because of the developers time it takes to implement, yet they have a metric butt ton of different, flavorful vendor trash that had to be programed in.

DAILY COOLDOWNS-I have alot of things going on during the week, while I still game, I can't join groups/do things that require my full attention because of RL stuff. Why do we have daily quests/dungeons(name it what you want, you know what I mean). Make it repeatable 7 times a week. Look at that, takes the same amount of time to accomplish, yet YOU get to choose when to do it, instead of having to pound out one a day. How amazing.

PVP STATS-A game comes out, you don't start it right at launch, or you dick off and make a thousand alts before you figure out what you want to be, or whatever. Regardless, you find yourself finally at max level and ready to start trying out the PVP of the game. Guess what, you are not powerful enough to kill most people, and too weak to live against their attacks, because they have the magical PVP stat that you lack. I know why this exists, it's to keep PVP gear being better then PVE gear for fighting players. But it turns PVP into less a skill based game, and more another gear grind, until you are as geared as the rest, then the skill comes back into it. I do not have a good way to fix this, but it is time for it to go.

ADVENTURE OR GTFO-I can't really be a serious raider because of my job, so my options in most games is to raid with people, then stop playing for a couple of months(because of work), then have them catch me up to where they are/find a new group to raid with. Why can't you make things other then adventuring equal citizens? You thing of games like Ultima/Star Wars Galaxies/Vanguard
where you can enjoy being a crafter, and you were worth having around in a guild. I know I can join a guild as a social member, and maybe go out and slay internet dragons with them, but I like feeling like I'm there helping them, whether or not I'm in the room. Think of all the games you've ever played, think of any cool side games that you've seen, why are they not in MMO's also. I know I'm a bit of a Vanguard fanboy, but the reason I am is because of this. You can be a crafter, or a diplomat, or an adventurer, or a combination of the three, and you are NEVER penalized for it. AND, you can help people. A serious raid team needs to know some good diplomats, in case the right zone buffs aren't up. You need a crafter to turn those raid dropped mats into amazing gear. So amazing.

CRAFTING SELFISHLY-I love to craft. I love making my characters all their gear. I love having other people giving you their crafting mats so you can level it faster. It's a group effort that got you to X level, and now everyone enjoys the extra bag space from your new, bigger bags. However, once you get crafting to max level, it mostly exists to give you some sort of a bonus, making it required to level. I'm sick of finding out my bad ass recipes are BoP, or, that there are no bad ass recipes, but it gives me +5% awesomesauce passively. What happened to the days that you knew who the few crafters were, and made sure to stay in their good graces so that you could get them to do the awesome things you needed them for.

Alright, that's enough for this post, I have more, so this will be a multi-part post. But seriously, why are these things still around. Would anyone really not play a game if these things weren't around? Am I strange for really hating when this comes up?Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-18983600643704766682012-06-28T14:09:00.001-07:002012-06-28T14:09:35.331-07:00City of Heroes vs Champions Online Well, I've played them both, again. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Both look like the could be fun. Let's see how they stack up.

MOVEMENT-CoH
Both let you run fast/jump high/fly/teleport. CO you pick one after you finish the introduction. You don't get any groovy graphics if you don't pay, but you get them all. Their movement powers are tiered, so once you are out of combat, you are slow. X time later you speed up, Y time after that you speed again. The time is not long, ten seconds or so, so not a big deal. The problem is, the speeds aren't all that fast compared to CoH. In wow terms, it feels like BC style regular flight, just not super fast.

CoH you get fast speed/jump and flight at lvl one(cannot fly till out of starter area). The baseline ones aren't that fast. But around lvl four, when you are picking a new power, you can choose an amazingly upgraded travel power instead of a new ability. Min/max might not agree with sound that, but since when did superheroes care about min/maxing(looking at you, Jubilee).

COMBAT-Tie.
I won't say one is better then the other, they are too different. CO has resource building and resource consuming abilities. Some abilities can be charged up, doing more damage but consuming more time/resources.

CoH has a resource, but I have yet to run out of it. CoH's big thing is ALL abilities have a CD. When you first start playing the game, this is horrible. You only start with on primary, one secondary, and two abilities that basically deal no damage. Now that I'm level 10, I have enough abilities to not use the crappy ones, but still not have any gaps in my gameplay.

CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION- CoH
I'm going to only talk about looks here, abilities will be in a different section. Both games have the same basic options, you pick the gear(looks only), colors and all. The look you pick is what your toon will look like for it's career. Gear doesn't change the look, so no stupid early expansion clown looks. You're character ALWAYS looks like you wanted it to. The difference between the two is they CoH has WAY more options.

LOOKS-CoH
CO looks like a comic strip, including "Frap" in a jagged bubble over baddies names. CoH looks normal. I prefer normal.

CHARACTER ABILITY CUSTOMIZATION-CoH
Not going into depth here. CO-you pick your class, travel power. The end. Everything else is automatic. CoH is completely customizable. Granted, that means if you care about min/max there are wrong ways to do this that will completely make you toon gimp(I'm assuming, haven't looked it up) but we don't care about min/maxing, because we're freaking superheroes.

So, I think it's fairly obvious which game I support. I gave them 15 bucks for a month of VIP, so I could try out most of the classes. More to follow. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-35785686684107601282012-06-25T17:43:00.001-07:002012-06-25T17:43:47.675-07:00A game affair Well, I can only mess with computers for so long before I start getting frustrated, so limiting my troubleshooting to a small, undefined amount each day. That opens a noticeable chunk of my day that should involve some type of activity. Normally I'd start a woodworking project, but I'm moving soon, so don't want to mess up the garage I just cleaned. NEW MMO!!!!!!!

Yesterday I played some WOW, but I'm still not feeling playing that atm(does it seem like the more popular the game, the worse the people you meet in it?). Looked at aion, and while trying to figure out what my login name was when I played it, I rediscovered my ncsoft login for City of Heroes.

I remember trying a couple if hero games awhile back, one had fairly poor combat mechanics and I stopped playing during the intro, the other was decent. No clue which is which.

City of Heroes was the one with poo combat. BUT, after downloading it, figured I might as well give it another go. I am currently pleasantly surprised. You get used to the combat, feels poor cause all abilities have a cool down, so there are gaps in button smashing, and it auto targets poorly, but is manageable with time. The quests are very super heroy feeling, there are random people that need saving(no reward, but the npcs thank you). Plus there are bits of humor thrown throughout.

So far, seems like the best bet for F2P I've seen in a bit. We'll see how long it's interesting. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-45177231546618548202012-06-24T09:49:00.001-07:002012-06-24T21:02:18.977-07:00Life's little hiccups. So, family left the area this morning. I was up late last night watching UFC, and the wife woke up with the kids so I slept in till 9(!!). Walk downstairs. Coffee. Smoke. GAMETIME!!!! Load up the game, start hitting up the rewards guy for my boxes of bank filling. Two year old comes over. "up". Lift into lap. Shift toons. More boxes. Two year old uses keyboard as a slide to leave lap. Screen blank. RESTART!! Coffee refill while restarting. Smoke. Launch vanguard. Crash before character screen. Launch vanguard. Crash before character screen. Commence troubleshooting. Cry.

Ok, this is annoying. Run as admin, nothing. Check files, they're ok. Uninstall reinstall, still crashing. Completely delete and redownload(which takes all day with my crap Internet), still broken.

I'm going to bed, I have work in7 hours, hopefully I think of something, cause I'm currently stumped.

Finished up the unicorn quest this week, it's nice to be fast. This quest line is one of the things that I love about this game, epic quest lines for epic rewards is a good thing. Almost every quest in the chain is a group quest, while I was able to solo it with my Disciple, a lot of classes will struggle without a group. I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but my unicorn is instant cast, which is an amazing feature.

In other news, my folks are in town to see the amazing cuteness that is their new granddaughter, so not much gametime for me this week. See you all after! Happy fathers day to all applicableRizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-51414677976782966632012-06-15T04:04:00.000-07:002012-06-15T04:04:47.693-07:00Novice Artificer QuestsOk, I was a big time crafter when Vanguard first launched, I have more crafting levels then adventuring levels, but it's been awhile. I'm going to be posting about the big time quests, just so I have a reference that I know is up to date if/when I want to do this again, plus a reference that makes sense for if anyone else asks me the same questions. Today I'm doing the Qalia Novice quests, for Artificer.
This quest starts in Ahgrim, starting with Sajin Callash. Easily found by asking a guard for directions to the artificer trainer.

Ok, Saj will give you some temp. recipes to craft, and make you go all over Qalia to learn the secretsssessss from the masters. First is Serin Talah, in Hathor Zi. Take the rift to Hathor Zi, run down to the crafting area, shouldn't be that hard. Talk and bingo, ready to go

Next up, head to Khal. I recomend getting a wyvern right by Hathor Zi rift, cause you will have to cross the water to talk to the Khal person, Shaliz Talhani.

Then, back to the rift, head to Qa Riverbank, and you'll be (hopefully) flying to Mekalia(you did get that wyvern for 25 copper, right?) Fly to Mekalia, ask for the Artificer trainer directions, and Silaskun Lojay should be nearby.

Now, double check you have the weakened timber you need, and head back to Ahgrim. You will need 6 weakened timbers to make the items for the quest.

Remember, when making items for this quest, choose the basic style.

I can't make the pictures do what I want in Blogger. I see posts where the text is above/below the picture, but mine keeps going around it too. Makes my picture posts look bad. I was making a post showing a crafting quest, but it looks too bad to be usable for anything. Any pointers from an expert would help!!Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-14310278085092178402012-06-12T22:23:00.000-07:002012-06-12T22:23:46.356-07:00Ruling the Roost
So I figured I'd never get my house done enough to show anyone, so might as well just show what I have. So this is my house, as viewed from my Disciple. Notice the awesome cave behind my house, how cool is my backyard?

So this is my bedroom, viewed by my DK. The bed is smashing a bunch of Vetrens reward beds together, the shelving is actually tables I flipped upside down and brought up to the roof. This is as far as I've gotten actually getting anything done. And, as you can see,

even this is pretty sparse atm. Empty shelves, I'm living like I'm 20 again.
The rest I'll show, but remember, I'm still in progress

I don't know how the pro's do things, but I just throw all my crap out and figure out what I want to do with it later. Obviously "later" hasn't arrived for my dining set yet.
And last, the walkway leading up to the bedroom. Love the two story houses design.

I think it might of happened. I might of picked a class to level. I'm not promising anything, but it is definatly possible. The winner is....... Disciple!! Good damage(so far). Great survivability(so far). Awesome Kung fu. What's not to love?

Got him to level 20 last night, so now comes the hard part, but so far I can solo pretty much everything I want, up to and including 4 dot mobs/quests. We'll see as we go.

I plan on doing pictures here, but I'll be damned if I can find my screenshot folder on my pc. Searching online says it should be in my Vanguard/screenshot folder, but that doesn't exist for me. I might try to take some with my iPhone and do it that way, but seems a bit bootleg for my tastes. If you posses the knowledge I need to make this work, please hook me up. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-77905189840691752082012-06-09T01:21:00.001-07:002012-06-09T01:21:42.906-07:00Shelter for everyone! Well, looks like June rewards are in. Lots of stuff to be had, but one thing of significance- houses!

Way back in the day, I had a tier 5 house that I farmed with friends. Furniture, chests, storage, houses in Vanguard are where it's at. Unfortunately there have been numerous server merges since I stopped playing, so I lost my house. In addition, I also gained extra crap in my bags that used to be in my chests, including the chests themselves. I've been playing my least favorite mmo mini game upon my return to vanguard, inventory management. Every toon I'm on is loaded down with crafting mats that used to hang out in my house. SOE to the rescue!

The June veterans rewards gives you a tier 3 house of your choice, any style you want. The only catch is there is one thing you need to buy from a special housing vendor, which costs basically nothing. So, I roll over to the vendor and notice the housing escrow npc standing right next to him. Why not see if I have something in escrow, just in case.

Yup, I'm dumb. My old house is right there, staring me in the face....

So, I'm now decorating my house again. Love this part of the game.

Top tip, type /claim in game. They give out rewards(or used to) for subbing. Lots of free furniture in them!Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-79143437753605339192012-06-07T17:07:00.001-07:002012-06-07T17:08:03.429-07:00Back in business Baby is born, guests are gone, game time!

I'm back in Vanguard due to watching a newborn. I need to be able to stop playing and feed/change at a moments notice, and soloing mmo's is my preferred game for those times. Got a psyonist to 10 on the island of dawn, and have one spot left on my character slots, so trying to figure out what I want. I want to get my last toon off the isle tonight if I can, so I can score an awesome boat before we get the new rewards. I guess we'll see what happens.

Now that I'm back, I'll start posting more regularly. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-59500337165719261742012-05-31T04:36:00.001-07:002012-05-31T04:36:57.103-07:00Feeling for a pulse They say if you want to blog, you have to write, even if you have nothing to say. Makes me think politicians would make excellent bloggers. Well, I haven't much to write about because I'm completely wrapped up with the impending baby number two and the visiting family, plus I'm only playing diablo, and doubt that the ramblings of a guy that gets a toon to hell mode then rerolls would make for interesting reading. So fear not, I'm not dead, just waiting for a resurgence of mmo gaming to have writing material. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-64514671735110128782012-05-25T10:16:00.001-07:002012-05-25T10:17:09.666-07:00Diablows my mind So, I'm about a week into my diablo life. I'm something of an altoholic, usually struggling to stick to one toon because I lust after awesomeness that is other classes abilities. I started as a barbarian, mostly playing with friends. Heroic leap and whirlwind are the greatest combination of abilities I've ever encountered. I spend my time on the barb giggling like a little girl, whirlwinding around dealing the damages. When I was playing in a group with my buddy's monk, everything was copacetic, and we easily cleared normal and nightmare modes with minimum fuss.

After finishing nightmare, I had to stop playing with my friends due to the arrival of my mother-in-law. I don't game when company is in town, cause that is fairly rude, so gaming happens in small bursts late at night.

Hell mode was an awakening for me. I was having to pot for trash packs. I encountered my first yellow named mob, and he politely informed me that I needed better gear if I wanted to solo in hell mode. I wouldn't even get him to 90% health before he would smash my face in. It was ridiculous. Now, I understand that diablo type games are all about grinding for loot. I don't have a problem with that. My problem is that if I only have a little bit if game time, I don't want it to be frustrating. Sans guests at my house, I would happily grind my barb so I could advance. Alas, minor gaming means I want more kills and less wipes. Bring out your monks!!!!!

Monk has amazing heals, and some pretty cool abilities, but not like the barb. I'm almost done with nightmare mode with him, then I can finally start hooking my barb up with some pimptastic gear. The monk has been fun, almost no deaths, just slow and steady progress throughout the game. I'm thinking that he'll be fine in hell mode, and soon we shall find out. Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-79393834359079288362012-05-22T04:41:00.001-07:002012-05-22T04:42:45.937-07:00Catching upI haven't posted in a bit, not because I've stopped blogging, but I just haven't had much game time of note recently. Between the mother-in-law being in town and Diablo III launching, I've been busy.
I've definatly retired the Shaman for a bit, the damage was just not there, so the fights lasting too long was getting to me. I've been bouncing around between different toons, trying to find one that felt right to me. While I've had alot of fun, it is reminding me of how Vanguard seems to be made for at least a duo. The power of two is WAY stronger then one person alone. Unfortunatly, I'm unable to really devote a solid block of time into trying to find a static group, so the going is slow. I'll start narrowing down what to do soon(by soon I mean after the diablo frenzy has faded).
I've joined a guild, they seem like a pretty solid group of people, there is activity online at all times of the day, people are very helpful with advice/low level quest help. If you ask a question, it's usually answered right away, unless they are raiding. While they have a guild hall, it seems more like it's being used as a chest holding recall spot then the center of activity for events. I walked around it once, and it was fairly baren. Well, one of the guildies decided it was time to fix that, and was looking for help crafting some of the high end stuff to make it look more lively.
When I first started playing Vanguard, I had some crafters. Playing on the FFA PVP server meant that once you got over LVL 7 adventuring you were open game for player delivered death. My first toon was an armorsmith warrior, and I leveled both as I went, striving to keep my crafting level even with my adventuring level. It soon became apparent that crafting was fairly impossible, people would swing by the crafting stations to see if there was someone to gank. So I started making my crafting alts. Level a toon to 6, then never level again, and use them for crafting. While it was less then awesome knowing that my adventuring toons couldn't craft, it was amazing not having to worry about getting killed while making a crazy expensive piece of gear. Soon I got into the habit of crafting whenever I had game time but none of my friends were online, and that was a large chunk of time. I ended up with almost four max level crafters.
So, when the call for help went out to improve the look of the guild hall, I figured I'd help these people that have helped me so much. Boy was I in for a shock.
The crafting system of Vanguard is one of the greatest I've ever seen in a game. It is it's own minigame. Unlike most recent games where the "crafting" was really all about harvesting then hitting the "make all" button, Vanguard makes it rewarding in it's own right. Granted, it's about as mind stimulating as Farmville, but it makes a relaxing mini game to handle erratic game time hours, or just to blow a couple of minutes/hours doing something different. I don't really have the desire or time to get into a hardcore end game guild anymore, I have done it in the past and it was amazing. However, now that I have a kid(soon two) I really can't justify spending that much time in a mandatory "must play" atmostphere. Plus, my job dictates that I spend months at a time with no internet, so I would always be a bit behind the power/gear curve, and that's not fine with me.
All that aside, I would still enjoy the chance to raid occasionally. Join a raiding guild as a social, help out with lower level problem, crafting stuff to help other out, and maybe occasionally they need another for a run they're doing and I can hop in and kill internet dragons. This seems like a fairly likely game to make that possible.
Anyways, off to work for me, I might make a Diablo post or two, or I might just pause this till my time there fades. Either way, have a good one and remember, games are for fun, so refuse to get angry or frustrated at your pixels!Rizamphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09850952988393818427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3505396627470180529.post-42236408653758609622012-05-10T06:16:00.001-07:002013-01-08T22:28:45.616-08:00Perspective is everything Delat is now close to level 20. He's a badass caster melee hybrid with some of the cooler abilities I've seen in the game. He has a wolf pet that deals enough damage to pull aggro for a bit. He gets a wolf form that is faster than horses at that level. In wolf form with his pet out, he looks awesome, like D'ivers from Malazan Book of the Fallen.

When I'm out leveling with Delat, I pull one mob with a nuke, hit my instant cast 4 second root, and start nuke spamming. Between pet hate and the root, I can usually get 3-4 casts off before its in melee range. Once in range, I throw a melee dot up, blow my endurance on my better hits, then hit my instant cast root to back out for more nukes. Pretty awesome gameplay. If I pull too much, I can run way at speed because I'm in wolf form.

I played like this for a couple of days, doing the URT quest line. Everything was going pretty good with little to no problems till one of the quests sent me into a cave filled with spiders. Every other pull was a multi pull, which I couldn't handle. I died three or four times clearing the cave to get to the back, one pull from the last group. Once again I pulled and got three mobs. Burned two down before I dropped. When I went back to the cave to grab my tombstone and finish up the quest, ALL of the spiders had respawned. Not feeling another 30 minutes of pulling and death, I was about to leave to go summon my corpse when a sorcerer showed up on the same quest I was on, so we grouped up.

What I saw happen next blew my mind.

This sorc would let me pull, then would one or two shot the spider. Literally took us 3 minutes to get to where my tombstone was. We finished the quest in the time it took me to kill one mob solo. On our way to turn in, we aggroed a group of at level 2-dots, and the sorc aoe'd them down, with THREE hits. After he left the group, I killed maybe 3-4 more mobs before I gave up. My amazing gameplay was ruined.

I know shaman is a healer, but I had thought that a geared, skilled shaman could put out damage close to what a dps class could. Well, now I know better. I figured I could join a group as dps if I wanted, so I could learn the raid mechanics as a class of less responsibility, but no, that isn't possible.

So, after learning all of this, I now have to roll a new class. I was having fun in the shaman, but after seeing how the mobs COULD be killed, combat suddenly feels crazy slow. Once I figure out what I want to play, we'll start this back up. Level 15 for a shaman is where you pick what type of play style you want, and makes you incredibly more effective at dealing delicious death to all you see. There are three choices: a caster focus, tankie focus, and a mix.
When you're picking, you are choosing your patron. Whichever you pick will give you a new buff, some abilities, a pet and the ability to shape-shift into the form of your patron. Caster is a bird, tank is a bear, mix is a wolf. Delat will go wolf. You get a melee buff, wolf form buffs damage and regen, makes you run faster the a horse at that level, and some melee abilities. Once a shaman hits 15, life improves significantly.

Got 14 tonight, so I should have delicious awesomeness tomorrow. I cannot wait. It levels with you, and is the only thing that I know of that is as awesome as this. It's basically a passive buff to all spheres that levels up with you. This is an amazing thing, but they are going to stop giving them out come F2P. Because of this, I am now leveling all classes that I might on day want to play.

First up is my disciple. He'll be level ten and get his loots in an hour or so, then I'll probably start up a blood Mage. I can't tell you how awesome this is, so make sure you take advantage while you can!

Edit: there is an event going on atm, called M.E.S.T or something. If you talk to the herald while it's happening he'll give you a bag that replaces your harvesting belt that will hold certain items. More room = more awesome. Going to have to take a break from leveling to power up my harvesting a bit. I see T2 resources but am unable to capitalize on them due to not finding the trainer till late. Most of my previous toons I leveled in the dark elf area, so it's been interesting to try to find npcs and harvesting nodes and other things that plague your first play through in a new area. I am still loving the epic scope the original quest have, even with the lackluster gear rewards. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to craft on this character, but we'll see as we go. I love vanguards crafting system, so it will probably happen at some point.

I still have yet to see anyone else in the world on this toon, but I'm guessing that it's mostly because everyone goes to IoD to start, so they should start showing up in the next couple of levels. Looking forward to possibly grouping up to inflict my horrible utilization of the defensive target system to heal the wrong person in a group setting. I love the idea of offensive and defensive targets, but I have died a bunch due to having some random person targeted instead of myself. No better way to improve its usage then healing a group!
